Off Leash Dog Areas

This consultation has concluded.

Wagga Wagga City Council provides six designated dog off leash areas across the city, including an enclosed agility track.

We're currently looking to establish a further three off leash areas in Estella, Glenfield and Mount Austin and would like your input into the proposed locations.

Off leash areas provide a safe and fun environment for residents to exercise and socialise their dogs. Suburban off leash areas are usually frequented by locals and as such don't result in any increase in vehicle traffic, causing minimum disruption.

Companion animal management is a responsibility for all dog and cat owners. Did you know that if you are in charge of a dog not under control in a public place you could be issued a $220 fine?

It's Council's role to enforce the Companion Animals Act on behalf of the State Government. To help dog owners exercise their animals, a number of off leash areas are provided and planned for across the City.

We need your input to ensure we have a safe community for residents along with happy and healthy pets.

  • Off Leash Areas Rules & Guidelines

To ensure off leash dog areas are a safe area for residents and pet owners, there are a number of rules and guidelines in place

    • Area is only available for use in daylight hours
    • You must have control of your dog at all times. Even though it is off leash area, you must prevent it from harassing, attacking and chasing other people or animals. Any attacks may result in a Dangerous Dog Declaration being placed on your dog & you may be liable for any damages.
    • All faeces must be picked up and placed in the waste bins provided
    • Your dog must be wearing a collar with identification tags and be lifetime registered.
    • Declared Dangerous Dogs and Restricted Breeds are prohibited to be off leash in an off leash area.
    • Where the areas are fenced, wheeled recreational devices and motor vehicles are prohibited.

Any breach of these requirements could result in infringements being issued to owner and/or dog being impounded.
