Kincaid Street centre parking

Consultation has concluded

UPDATE 29/8/17: Council has deferred a decision on the future of the Kincaid Street centre of road parking trial until after a Councillor workshop has been held

UPDATE 21/8/17: The agenda for the 28 August Council Meeting is now online (pg126). The report to Council recommends continuing the trail for a further six months subject to the removal of six parking spaces to address concerns raised by the RMS, NSW Police and Council's insurers.

UPDATE 10/7/17: The survey has now closed. The results are being collated and will be presented in a report to the August 2017 Council Meeting.

In response to calls for more parking around the Fitzmaurice Street precinct a six-month trial of all day centre-of-road parking was conducted in Kincaid Street. Now that the trial has finished we would like to know how you think it went and whether the initiative continue.

During the trial the number of parking spots on Kincaid Street between Fitzmaurice Street and Trail Street went from 41 to 67, with the centre-of road spots marked all day.

No incidents were reported to the City of Wagga Wagga during this time however Roads and Maritime (RMS) have informed that centre-of-road parking is advised against within the Australian Standards (AS2890.05), NSW Police have voiced concerns about the safety of pedestrians leaving and returning to their cars and concerns have been raised about the safety of cars parking and exiting parks.

If the initiative was to continue the following changes will need to be considered:

  • Some parks being removed to allow for delivery vehicles to enter premises
  • No right turn into Barrand Street from Kincaid Street
  • Removal of the cycle lane
